Robert Mark Hitch (1872-1940) was born in Morvan, Brooks County, Georgia. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Mercer University in 1892 and was admitted to the bar later that year. He moved to Savannah in 1893 and entered the law firm of Garrard, Meldrim and Newman. He established his own law firm in 1898. Hitch served as president of the Savannah Bar Association, was a member of the Georgia General Assembly (1902-1902), and was mayor of Savannah from 1937 until 1938. From the...
